Schwarz named President and GM of Telemundo NY

Cristina SchwarzCristina Schwarz returns to the New York market.  She was officially named President and General Manager of WNJU, Telemundo’s O&O in New York today.

The position had been vacant for several months, after the departure of Carlos Sanchez.

Until two weeks ago, Cristina was Vice President of Univision Cable Networks.

She has extensive experience in the New York market.  She worked for WXTV-41, Univision’s O&O in NY for 17 years, in multiple capacities, including production and sales.  She was VP and GM of Univision 41 when left the station in 2005.

Echeverry named anchor at Telemundo NY

Gloria EcheverryGloria Echeverry has been hired to become WNJU-47’s new weeknight anchor.  She’ll be co-anchoring the 6 and 11 pm news Monday-Friday, alongside Jorge Ramos, who has been on the job since 1981.

Gloria starts the new job today, although she won’t be on the air just yet.  There is no set date for her on-air debut at the Telemundo O&O in New York.

Gloria was most recently a television host for Casa Club TV International.  She previously held multiple TV hosting and news anchor jobs in Colombia, including for Noticiero 24 horas and NTC and GOS Televisión.

I was president of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists from 2004 to 2006. I am currently the Managing Editor of IntersectionsSouthLA.org.
