WPLG, the ABC affiliate in Miami, has fired anchor Charles Perez. Charles himself confirmed he no longer works at the station.
Steve Rothaus from the Miami Herald writes the action comes just days after Charles filed a sexual discrimination claim, which angered angered his bosses. In a statement to the Herald, WPLG’s VP and GM Dave Boylan said Charles’ actions left them no choice other than to terminate his employement contract: “WPLG emphatically denies Perez’s claim of discrimination. The document he is circulating is filled with misstatements ant untruths.”
Meanwhile, Charles’ business attorney says she will amend the discrimination charge she filed last week to include termination as part of his claims.
