NYT to start charging for online content

The New York Times announced today that starting in 2011 it will introduce a paid, “metered model” for NYTimes.com.

According to their press release, the Times will give users free access to a limited number of articles per month and then charge readers for additional content. The NYT hopes to create a second revenue stream that will help it survive in the industry. Home delivery print subscribers will continue to have free access to NYTimes.com.
