U.S. TV personalities join Chile telethon

Less than a week after the devastating 8.8 quake in Chile, efforts are underway to start raising funds to help victims and for reconstruction. Starting at 8 pm tonight, telethon “Chile Ayuda a Chile” will be airing for 24 hours, with the goal of raising $29 million.

Chilean-born Mario Kreutzberger, known as Sábado Gigante’s Don Francisco, will be the host of the telethon, which will be held in Chile. Telemundo sent Ana Maria Polo, host of Caso Cerrado to participate in the event.

According to the Santiago Times, several celebrities will be participating in the event.

January’s Hope for Haiti telethon, held here in the U.S., raised $57 million.
