A racially offensive skit that aired on Univision’s “Despierta América,” caused outrage among African-American activists and forced Univision to issue an apology.
According to the L.A. Times, the skit, which aired on Friday morning, was a parody showing the TV show’s hosts in Afro wigs with spears dancing to “African” music as a tie in to the World Cup in South Africa.
Univision issued the following brief statement:
“It is completely unacceptable and against our policies, standards and practices. We sincerely apologize to our viewers and all who were offended.”
