Comcast-NBCU merger opponents team up

21 organizations, including Bloomberg, Free Press, Media Access Project, the Parents Television Council and the Writers Guilds East and West have joined forces to form the Coalition for Competition in Media, which opposes the Comcast-NBCU merger.

The group claims the deal would not benefit the American consumer, small businesses, media industry workers or diversity in programming and would mean Comcast would have “far too much power for one cable company.” The group calls for the FCC and Justice department “to use their authority to protect the public interest,” given “the serious threat Comcast’s plans pose to consumers and fair competition in the media market.”

The coalition has also launched a website – www.competitioninmedia.org.
