KWHY-22 sold

Inside sources tell me that a deal was reached on Monday night on the sale of NBCU-owned KWHY-22 in Los Angeles.

According to a source, the buyer is real estate and food services industry investor Alex Meruelo, CEO and President of Meruelo Enterprises Inc., Cantamar Property Management Inc., and La Pizza Loca Inc.

While the sale is finalized, the station will go into a divestiture trust, Bahia Honda LLC, managed by 30-yr TV vet José Cancela.

Staffers tell me they were informed last week that there would be a separation of staff and resources between KWHY-22 and KVEA-52, even though the news operations of both stations are currently housed with KNBC’s.

The sale of one of NBCU’s L.A. stations was one of the requirements for the Comcast-NBCU merger to move forward.
