The opening night gala of the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival (LALIFF) was last night at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood. The 9 day festival, which celebrates its 15th anniversary this year, showcases high quality cinema from Latin-American filmmakers.
During the sold out event, organizers presented the Gabi Lifetime Achievement Award to Academy Award winner Guillermo Navarro in recognition of his visionary excellence in cinematography. The “Gabi” was created in 1997 to honor Gabriel Figueroa, the first Mexican cinematographer to be nominated for an Oscar for his work in “Night of the Iguana.”
The opening night film was the comedy “Aquí Entre Nos,” the Opera Prima of Mexican director Patricia Martinez de Velasco.
