Peña to anchor KTVK’s new 10 pm news

KTVK weekend anchor/reporter Carey Peña has been named co-anchor of 3TV News @ 10 p.m.  The new 30-minute, primetime newscast premieres on Monday, Aug. 22, expanding the Belo station’s live news coverage to nine hours a day.

3TV News @ 10 p.m. will feature more interaction with digital media including Facebook, Twitter and www.azfamily.com.  Carey, who has more than 10,000 Twitter followers, will use her social networks to get feedback on stories and search for story ideas.

“Our hope is to bring various aspects of our reporting experience to the 10:00 news as well as incorporate social media in a meaningful way,” Carey tells me. “Fields Moseley is moving here from Salt Lake City to be my co-anchor, which is wonderful.  Not only is he a great journalist but a really cool guy.  Fields and I will have a big role in 3TV News at 10 from the editorial process to the storytelling.”

Carey says she’s excited about the new move: “I love living in Phoenix and am fortunate to have my career evolve here.  With 14 month old twins, it’s a big undertaking signing on to anchor a nightly newscast.  But I am excited and confident that I can make it all work.”

She currently anchors the Sunday night line-up of “Good Evening Arizona” and “3TV News at 9” and is a correspondent for KTVK’s investigative and consumer-advocacy unit 3 on Your Side.  She has been with the station for almost 13 years, the past 10 as a general assignment reporter.
