Univision, Telemundo strike digital content deals

Spanish-language networks Univision and Telemundo have signed deals to bring their video content online through partnerships with Hulu and YouTube.

Univision inked a multi-year content agreement that will offer hundreds of hours of novelas, variety shows, comedies, and reality series to Hulu and Hulu Plus.  The service will launch later this year. As part of the deal, Hulu users will have next-day access to a selection of current season programming. Hulu Plus subscribers will have more access to current primetime episodes as well as hundreds of hours of library content.

Immediately after the Univision announcement, Telemundo said it was launching two YouTube channels dedicated exclusively to Telemundo and mun2 content. Telemundo weekly novela summaries will be available with English subtitles, as well as daily novela clips in Spanish. The YouTube mun2 channel will include mun2.tv original bilingual content.

According to comScore, in the month of August Telemundo.com ranked as one of the top three most “engaged” video experiences among all television networks, regardless of language, with an average of 22.8 videos per viewer and 83.1 minutes per viewer.
