Latina Lista gets new look

Since it launched in 2004, Latina Lista has grown from a single-page blog to a nationally recognized site.  In its 7 year existence, the site has gone through a few redesigns. Founder Marisa Treviño just finished the latest one. Last week, she relaunched the site with a new look.

“This incarnation of the site — my third since 2004 — is the most well-rounded of all my sites, in the variety of content and contributors,” she says.  “I even changed my tagline, playing on the word ‘lista’ (which means smart), to ‘The Smart News Source.’ Because I feel that this variety of content — sometimes specifically focused on Latinos and sometimes focused on issues that we all should be aware of — creates a destination where readers will know they will find thought-provoking and informative news.”

Latina Lista’s original tagline was “A Viewpoint on Anything and Everything from a Latina Perspective.”

Marisa tells me she’s been working on this redesign for about a year and a half. “It’s taken this long to decide on a layout and transfer all my content from the old site to the new one….Once the new site was done, I wasn’t quite ready to launch it so was having to basically keep up two sites at once.”

Marisa says the new layout allows her to offer her readers more options. “This new site is allowing me to finally realize a vision I’ve always believed was the definition of New Media — an offering of multimedia content enhanced with content from partnerships and contributions from people in the greater  community.

It was extremely important to me that I maintain partnerships with bloggers, Latino community newspapers and offer the opportunity to promote projects that focus on doing social good, as well as,  provide a platform to people who want to share their personal experiences and/or viewpoints with a wider audience.”

Marisa says it hasn’t always been easy to publish the site and round up the diversity of voices from all over the country, but making it happen has been her dream.

“I would do it all over again because I just believe that Latina Lista is meant to be a part of this media landscape.”
