Back in November of 2011, “Uncle Fred,” took a job at a Home Depot to make ends meet after his previous contract at the CBS affiliate was not renewed, even though he remained as a freelancer for the station’s morning news.
Fred told the Austin American-Statesman he left the job at the hardware chain last Friday because KEYE-TV made him a better offer: “I do have a contract, but I don’t know how long it is,” Fred told the paper. “It’s a couple of years at least, so I have some job security.”
