El Huffington Post arrives in Spain

The Huffington Post debuted in Spain on Thursday. The launch of El Huffington Post is a partnership with Spain’s El País and PRISA SA.

Montserrat Domínguez with Ariana Huffington and Guillermo Rodríguez during the launch.

The Spanish site is based in Madrid. Former Spanish TV journalist Montserrat Domínguez is the Editorial Director and Guillermo Rodríguez, former editor-in-chief of the Spanish daily newspaper Público, is the Editor-in-Chief.

According to a story by El País, El Huffington Post will have 7 journalists working out of the El País newsroom. Bloggers for the new site will include filmmakers Alex de la Iglesia and Santiago Segura, as well as politicians such as Justice Minister Alberto Ruiz-Gallardón and Basque regional premier Patxi López.

Arianna Huffington was in Spain for the launch. She also wrote an introductory welcome message that included how she selected Monsterrat to lead the site and about the partnerships with Spain’s most important media companies:

“El Huffington Post will be both a journalistic entity and a platform that captures the unique perspectives, voices and spirit of the Spanish people. One reason we are particularly thrilled to partner with PRISA and El País is that they are not only deeply familiar with that spirit, but a core part of it, with their long history of championing democracy and free expression. Together, we’ll be telling the stories people care about most — and, just as important, helping them tell their stories themselves.”
