A. Martinez has joined KPCC as co-host of Southern California’s new morning radio show “Brand & Martínez,” which airs weekdays from 9 to 11 am. His co-host is Madeleine Brand, who had her own one-hour show from 9 to 10 am on 89.3KPCC since October of 2010. With his addition, the public radio station, which was looking for a co-host that could address Latino issues, expanded the show’s length to two hours.
Jorge – A. Martinez’s first name – is a longtime sports radio broadcaster, known as the host of “Dodger Talk” and “Lakers Line.” He hosted “In The Zone,” ESPN LA’s nightly broadcast from L.A. Live since 2007. July 27 was his last show, but “A” tweeted that he will continue hosting “Lakers Line” for ESPN 710 AM.
The story behind the “A” in A. Martinez? According to a KPCC story, one of his early bosses couldn’t remember “Jorge,” so when he needed to call him he’d shout, “Hey, Martinez!” That eventually became A Martinez.
“Brand & Martínez” debuted August 20.
