New ESPN Deportes original show debuts tonight

Oscar De La Hoya, host Andrés Agulla and Julio César Chávez on the set of “El Bar.”

For the first time since 1998, Oscar De La Hoya and Julio César Chávez Sr. will meet face-to-face for an in-depth conversation about their boxing careers on the debut of ESPN Deportes’ original sports talk show “El Bar.”

The program, hosted by Andrés Agulla, ESPN Spanish-language play-by-play commentator and co-host of “Fuera de Juego,” airs tonight at 9 pm ET.  The legendary boxers fought their last match in 1998.

Tonight’s episode with “The Golden Boy” and Chávez Sr. will cover a wide range of topics, including their humble beginnings, their journey to the top, and their love of the sport. They’ll also talk about the differences between starting and continuing a boxing career in Mexico and the United States.

The first episode of “El Bar” closes with a discussion about Julio César Chávez Jr.’s fight this weekend against Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez and De La Hoya’s protégé, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez’ fight against Josesito Lopez.

ESPN Deportes promises “El Bar” will never be the same, frequently moving to new locations and highlighting “sports idols and personalities of the entertainment industry”   that will attract Hispanic sports fans.
