Koci Hernandez elected, Hernandez reelected to ONA board

Former San Jose Mercury News photojournalist Richard Koci Hernandez, now Assistant Professor New Media at UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism, was elected to the Board of Directors of the Online News Association (ONA).  He was 1 of 4 new board members elected to a two-year term that begins Jan. 1, 2013.

Robert Hernandez, a former Seattle Times producer and Director of Development, currently Assistant Professor of Professional Practice at USC’s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, was reelected to the board for a second term.

Only 438 ONA member voted – less than 21% of ONA’s total membership of 2,106.

Robert got 271 votes and Richard was elected with 195 votes.

The others new board members are Mandy Jenkins, Digital Projects Editor, Digital First Media; Greg Linch, Special Projects and News App Producer, The Washington Post; and Jim Roberts, Assistant Managing Editor, The New York Times.

Serving out their current terms are: Board Vice President Meredith Artley, Vice President & Managing Editor, CNN Digital, CNN; Past President Christine Montgomery, Chief Digital Officer, Center for Public Integrity; Burt Herman, CEO and Founder, Storify and Hacks/Hackers; John Keefe, Senior Editor for Data News & Journalism Technology,WNYC; Juana Summers, Political Reporter, Politico; and Mario Tedeschini-Lalli, Deputy Director, Innovation and Development, Gruppo Editoriale L’Espresso.
