Telemundo delivers best ratings quarter

The first quarter of 2013 has been the best in Telemundo’s history, up 7% percent compared to the same period in 2012, averaging more total viewers than ever before during Monday through Sunday primetime programming.

The network also had its best Q1 among adults 18-49 during the same time period, according to Nielsen.

Programming Highlights

Telemundo’s primetime performance is fueled by “La Patrona” at 9 pm, which averaged nearly 1.9 million total viewers and one million adults 18-49 this quarter, ranking as the #2 novela in Telemundo history, behind Telemundo’s original production, “La Reina del Sur.”

NEWS

“Noticiero Telemundo” delivered its best first quarter ever among total viewers. Among total viewers, “Noticiero Telemundo” is up 9% vs. Q1 2012 (813,000 vs. 744,000) and up 9% year-over-year (349,000 vs. 320,000) among adults 18-49.

On January 21, Telemundo’s broadcast of President Obama’s Inauguration reached nearly 1.4 million total viewers, while special coverage of the final days of the papacy of Benedict XVI through the ascension of Benedict XVI’s successor reached 3.3 million total viewers.

“Al Rojo Vivo” is on pace to finish the quarter with over 1 million total viewers, a +6% gain vs. Q1 2012. Among adults 18-49, “Al Rojo Vivo” registers double-digit growth, +11% year-over-year (442,000 vs. 400,000).

SPORTS

Telemundo’s “Fútbol Estelar” Liga Mexicana “Superclásico” match between Chivas and América delivered nearly 2.6 million total viewers on average and 1.6 million adults 18-49. The match also delivered a cumulative audience of nearly 4.8 million total viewers, 39% more than last year’s Telemundo “Superclásico.”

Telemundo’s “Rumbo al Mundial” Soccer World Cup Qualifier between Honduras and Mexico delivered more than 2.3 million total viewers on average and nearly 1.3 million adults 18-49. The match also delivered a cumulative audience of more than 4.7 million total viewers, 7% more than the last match by the Mexican National Team broadcast by Telemundo (Guyana vs. Mexico, aired on October 12, 2012).

MOVIES

In the first quarter of 2013, Telemundo aired the top four primetime movies on Spanish-Language Television among total viewers and adults 18-49, including the #1 ranked “Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs,” which averaged 1,947,000 total viewers and 999,000 adults 18-49 on February 9, 2013.

“Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs” ranks as the highest rated primetime movie on Spanish-Language Television this season among adults 18-49, total viewers, viewers aged 2-11 (561,000) and 12-17 (179,000).
