Telemundo’s World Cup qualifier attracts almost 6 million viewers

Deportes Telemundo’s “Rumbo al Mundial” soccer World Cup qualifier between Jamaica and Mexico that aired on Tuesday, June 4 at 8:30PM ET, ranked as the #1 sporting event on television – broadcast or cable – regardless of language, averaging 2,867,000 total viewers and 1,733,000 adults 18-49, according to Nielsen.

The match also reached a cumulative audience of 5,731,000 viewers and 3,379,000 adults 18-49. 

“Rumbo al Mundial” was the top ranked telecast among total viewers in Houston and Los Angeles regardless of language in the time period and ranked # 1 program regardless of language among adults 18-49 in Los Angeles, Houston, Miami and Dallas. It also ranked #1 in Spanish-language television in Los Angeles, Houston, Dallas, San Francisco and Phoenix, outranking Univision.

The match also generated 48,484 social TV interactions ranking among the top 5 most talked about national broadcasts of the day in social media, according to Trendrr Research.

Deportes Telemundo will broadcast the Mexican national team’s next World Cup qualifying match – Panama vs. Mexico, this Friday June 7 at 9 pm ET.

The match will be narrated by sportscaster Andrés Cantor alongside soccer expert Sammy Sadovnik, who will be providing the commentary and analysis.
