González, Bailón named to NAHJ Hall of Fame

David González (left) and Gilbert Bailón will be inducted into the NAHJ Hall of Fame on August 26.

David Gonzalez and Gilbert Bailón have been selected as the 2013 NAHJ Hall of Fame inductees. They’ll be honored at the NAHJ Hall of Fame Gala, which will take place on Monday, Aug.26, during the Excellence in Journalism conference.

David has worked at The New York Times since 1990. Among the titles he’s held are: About New York Columnist, Bronx Bureau Chief, Metro Religion Reporter, Central America/Caribbean Bureau chief, and Citywide Columnist.

In 2011, he became co-editor of the Times’ Lens Blog, where he writes, assigns and edits daily features and slide shows for an online showcase of visual journalism.

David is also the founding member of Los Seis del Sur, a collective of six Nuyorican photographers who have been documenting the South Bronx since the 1970′s.

Gilbert is currently the Editor of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He joined the newspaper in 2007 as Editorial Page Editor and was promoted to Editor in 2012 . He previously worked at The Dallas Morning News, where he was the vice president and executive editor. He also held several managerial positions at the DMN and previously worked at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram,The Los Angeles Daily News, the San Diego Union andThe Kansas City Star.

David and Gilbert join the ranks of past honorees such as Cecilia Alvear, Gloria Campos, Rigo Chacón, George Ramos, Geraldo Rivera, Ysabel Durón, Ernest Sotomayor, and Ray Suarez to name a few.  You can see all the honorees here.
