Nazario’s bestseller adapted for young people

“Enrique’s Journey” has been revived.  A new version for young people of the national bestseller that tells the compelling story of a boy who risked his life traveling from Honduras to the United States in search of his mother, has just been released August 27, aimed at the new common core guidelines in schools.

The “young people” adaptation has a new epilogue and chapters, updating readers on where Enrique is today, on his life since his story became national news.

“States and districts are putting together lists of books to potentially be used with the new Common Core Standards being rolled out in schools nationwide,” says Sonia.  “I’m hoping to see more Latino-themed books on those lists, and Random House has high hopes that Enrique’s Journey can be part of the new books that augment the ‘Western Canon.'”

It’s been 1o years since Sonia Nazario won a Pulitzer prize for Feature Writing for her LA Times series “Enrique’s Journey.”  That series paved the way for her 2006 book, ENRIQUE’S JOURNEY: The Story of a Boy’s Dangerous Odyssey to Reunite with His Mother.  The book became a national bestseller.

Since taking a buyout from the LAT in 2008, Sonia has taken her book on the road and has focused on a career as a public speaker.
