Univision and Time Warner strike new distribution deal

Univision today announced it has signed a new multi-year, multi-platform agreement with Time Warner Cable that will extend carriage of Univision’s broadcast and cable networks, including Unimás,Galavisión, Univision Deportes, Univision tlNovelas, FOROtv and Robert Rodriguez’s soon to launch El Rey Network.

The deal comes well in advance of the expiration of the parties’ existing agreement. Financial terms weren’t disclosed.

Time Warner Cable will be among the first cable distributors to carry the El Rey Network, the new English-language entertainment cable network geared towards young-adult audiences launching at the end of 2013.

Filmmaker Robert Rodriguez, during the Univision upfronts in May, where it was announced El Rey would join Univision’s family of networks.

According to Univision, the multiplatform deal will provide Time Warner Cable’s customers access to content for digital platforms and VOD, which includes additional “TV Everywhere” content.<

The expanded partnership also includes renewed distribution rights for Univision’s lesser known cable networks – De Película, De Película Clásico, Bandamax, Ritmoson, Telehit and Distrito Comedia.
