Univision taps Echevarría de la Gándara as Digital VP

Univision has hired Spanish journalist Borja Echevarría de la Gándara, who will join the company as Vice President, Digital. He’ll be based in Miami and report directly to Daniel Coronell, SVP and Executive Director of Univision News.

In the newly created role, Echevarría de la Gándara will direct strategy for Univision News’ digital platforms, including NoticiasUnivision.com and and will oversee the integration of digital and TV newsrooms to ensure consistent news content and messaging.

He’ll also be charged with creating a data journalism unit for Univision News.

Echevarría de la Gándara was most recently Deputy Managing Editor of El País, Spain’s largest daily newspaper, where for the past 4 years he was responsible for digital content strategy and product development and played a key role in the newspaper’s transformation to digital.

Echevarría de la Gándara began his journalism career at El Mundo newspaper in 1995, moving up from reporter to online Deputy Editor in 2002.

In 2007 he co-founded Soitu.es, an online news startup that won two consecutive awards for General Excellence from the Online News Association.

n 2012, he became a Nieman-Berkman Fellow in Journalism Innovation at Harvard University.
