Telemundo picks up sports Emmys

Andrés Cantor won an Emmy as “Outstanding on-air sports personality in Spanish.”

Deportes Telemundo scored two Sports Emmy Awards from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. They picked up the awards at a gala ceremony yesterday night in New York.

The World Cup classifying match between Mexico and Costa Rica on “Rumbo al Mundial” in October 2013 was recognized as “Outstanding Live Sports Coverage in Spanish.” That game was narrated by Andrés Cantor and Sammy Sadovnik.

Andrés Cantor was also honored as “Outstanding On-Air Sports Personality in Spanish.”

This is the first time that specific categories for Spanish-language television were included at the Annual Sports Emmy Awards,  now in its 35th year.
