Enid Álvarez laid off from NY Daily News

July 21, 2014 by Veronica Villafañe

Enid_Alvarez-smallEnid Álvarez is one of 5 photographers laid off last Friday at the New York Daily News. About 17 newsroom staffers were downsized from the paper – the second layoff in a little over a year.

Enid had been a staff photographer with the Daily News since July of 2005.

On her Facebook page, she wrote about her departure:

“Farewell New York Daily News…Thanks for 9 years of the opportunity to photograph and meet many wonderful people and also to work along side of so many wonderful and talented photographers that I can call friends and will cherish forever. My new life begins now.”

In May of last year, columnist Albor Ruiz was among the approximately 20 people laid off at the paper.

Several NY pubs have been reporting on the recent layoffs, including Capital New York and the New York Post, which lists the names of the photographers and photo editors.
