Univision Radio cancels Luis Jiménez show in NY

The Luis Jiménez Show, on the air on Univision Radio’s  WXNY 96.3 FM since 2008, was abruptly canceled. On Facebook, fans today wanted to know why the show wasn’t on the air.

A company source confirmed the show was cancelled and that Luis Jiménez is no longer with Univision Radio. Effective immediately, the station will be airing a music intensive format in the 7 am to 12 pm time period, occupied until yesterday by the Puerto Rican DJ.

Additional programming announcements will be made “in the near future.”

Another source says all staffers on the show were laid off. A Univision Radio spokesperson would not confirm this.

On Facebook, Carolina Cadillo, the show’s co-host, posted a photo with a simple message: The best is yet to come. And on Instagram, a message allegedly signed by the DJ urged his fans to be patient and to stay tuned.

Prior to making the move to Univision Radio, Luis spent 14 years as morning show host at La Mega 97.9 in New York. His show “El Vacilón de la Mañana” hit the airwaves on August 9, 1993. It became the number 1 rated show in the NY market regardless of language in 2004.
