Fusion launches politics show, hires actor Kal Penn as special correspondent

October 2, 2014 by Veronica Villafañe

Fusion-Penn
Actor Kal Penn will be special correspondent for Fusion’s new midterm political show.

In preparation for its midterm election coverage, Fusion is launching a primetime politics show starting this Sunday, October 5. It’s also adding a celeb to its roster.

“Midterm Mayhem: The Ultimate Political Smackdown” will be hosted by Fernando Vila and feature actor Kal Penn, who is joining the network as a special correspondent for its midterm election coverage.

The actor, known for his “Harold & Kumar” film series, took a break from his Hollywood career and his role as a doctor on “House” in 2009 to join the Obama administration as an Associate Director in the White House Office of Public Engagement.

Fusion anchors Jorge Ramos and Alicia Menéndez will also contribute to the program.

Billy Kimball, who last month stepped down as Fusion’s Chief Programming Officer and Mark Lima, Vice President of News for the network, will serve as executive producers.

“Midterm Mayhem” will air Sunday through Thursday at 9:30 p.m. and will originate from Fusion’s Los Angeles studios.  The show will also be live-streamed and featured on Fusion’s digital platform.
