DIRECTV launches Spanish-language OTT Yaveo

DIRECTV today launched Yaveo, its first Internet-only subscription streaming video service, aimed at U.S. Hispanic consumers.

The new Spanish-language over-the-top service is $7.99 per month, with the first month free. No DIRECTV satellite subscription nor a contract will be required.

The satcaster partnered with Univision Communications and Viacom for the venture. That means subscribers will be able to check out Univision telenovelas galore.

In addition, they’ll get access to movies, TV shows and sports from content providers and networks such as beIN Sports en Español, Nick en Español, Canal 22, Pasiones, Canal Once, RCN, Caracol, TMN (The Movie Network), Cine Sony Television, MTV, Tr3s, El Garage, ¡Hola!TV and Video Rola.

Yaveo won’t be available to users outside the U.S. The service will initially be available on PCs, Macs and Android devices. It will later be available on iPhone, iPad, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and other devices.

DirecTV CEO Mike White had announced in September that it would launch an OTT service in Spanish before the end of this year.
