Former KTXL-40 anchor Sabrina Rodríguez pled no contest to shoplifting charges that last year forced her to resign to her job with the Sacramento Fox affiliate.
Her three felony counts were reduced to a single misdemeanor charge as part of a plea deal worked out by her attorney.
The 31-year old Rodríguez appeared in court last Friday, where she agreed to pay $2,480 in restitution. She’ll also have to wear an ankle monitoring device.
“I just really want to move on with my life, I really do,” Rodríguez told The Sacramento Bee. “And waiting for a trial or anything like that, it would just drag it out even more. I really want this behind me.”
Rodríguez, who has been out on $10,000 bail since her arrest in July of 2014, has maintained her innocence. She admits she knew her boyfriend had shoplifted, but that she did not help him commit the crimes for which she was charged.
A store security tape captured Rodríguez at an outlet store with her boyfriend where the duo was accused of shoplifting.
In an interview with the Sac Bee, she doesn’t discard returning to TV news: “But getting past this would take a news director who could see the benefits of hiring someone like me.”
