Cazares among layoffs at Minnesota Public Radio

David Cazares has lost his job after a round of layoffs at Minnesota Public Radio. He is one of 10 newsroom staffers, including editors, reporters, producers and photographers, affected by the cuts.

David had been at the station for the past 5 years as Web and Distribution Editor, arts reporter and podcast host.

“I enjoyed working for MPR News and met many great people there,” David tells Media Moves. “I loved hosting Counter Stories, a podcast by and for people of color. I’m looking for other opportunities in radio and digital and hope to build on the strengths I acquired in Minnesota. It was a great experience.”

His last day at MPR was July 23.

This is David’s second consecutive layoff. He took the MPR job after getting laid off from South Florida’s Sun Sentinel in 2009, where he spent almost 16 years as a reporter, columnist, Miami Bureau Chief and Assistant City Editor.
