Hurtado lands anchor job at WTOL

Viviana Hurtado

After spending almost 10 years as a network correspondent, political analyst and show host, Viviana Hurtado has joined WTOL as a weeknight anchor for the CBS affiliate in Toledo.

She’s anchoring the station’s 6:30 and 10 pm newscasts. She started the new job last month.

For the past 5 years, Viviana has been an NPR guest host and contributor at MSNBC, CNN, and Univision. In 2006, she was part of the Al Jazeera English launch team as the North America correspondent, covering U.S. foreign policy and politics.

“I covered national politics in Washington, D.C. for 9 years. In Ohio and in a great news town like Toledo, politics is 100 times more interesting because it’s up close, personal, and immediately impactful,” she tells Media Moves. “I’m excited to be in the critical battleground state of Ohio before the 2016 Presidential election, listening and learning how this community ticks and connecting it to my national experience.”

She previously spent 2 years as an ABC News correspondent in Washington D.C. Before that, she worked as an anchor/reporter at WPRI in Providence, RI and as a reporter at KRGV in McAllen, TX.

Viviana, who has a Master’s from Stanford and a Ph.D. from Yale University, is also the founder of The Wise Latina Club website, which aimed to empower Hispanic women. She says her site will now “live as an archive.”
