There’s a case of musical chairs at Univision 23 in Miami. Alina Mayo Azze will no longer anchor the 11 pm newscast. Gloria Ordaz leaves weekends to take over for Alina at 11 pm and Sandra Peebles returns to anchoring weekends.
The changes come after Alina, the station’s primetime anchor for the past 25 years, negotiated a reduction in her duties to spend more time with her family. Her request prompted a search for her replacement at 11 pm.
To fill the void, management opted to move Gloria from her weekend anchor role to weekdays. She’ll report for the 6 pm and anchor the 11 pm newscast.
Although the station made no formal announcement, the change was effective this past Monday.
The weekend vacancy will be filled by reporter Sandra Peebles, who had previously anchored for the station. Sandra starts on the weekend anchor desk on Saturday, February 6.
