Tovares named CPB Chief Content Officer

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting is expanding Joseph Tovares’ role within the organization. Currently SVP for Diversity and Innovation, Tovares has been named CPB’s Chief Content Officer.

In his new role, he’ll be tasked with strengthening coordination and collaboration across television, radio, diversity and innovation.

Tovares’ new title and duties reflect a change of the times and in CPB’s executive leadership.

Jennifer Lawson, SVP for Television & Digital Content, and Bruce Theriault, SVP for Journalism and Radio, will both retire in May.

Tovares has spent the past 7 years in his current position. He previously worked at WGBH, where he was the Executive Producer for La Plaza, the Latino production unit at the PBS station in Boston.

He was also Creator and Executive Producer of “Maria Hinojosa: One-on-One” and its Spanish language companion series, “Conversaciones con Maria Hinojosa,” and was the series editor and director of New Media at American Experience.

An Emmy-award winning producer, he has also worked for KLRN in San Antonio, KLRU in Austin, and KET in Lexington.
