Gurwitz joins NBC Deportes

Mexican sportscaster Miguel Gurwitz has joined NBC Deportes, making his first on-air appearance on Telemundo today.

Gurwitz is well-known in Mexico, where he spent almost 20 years as a sports reporter for Televisa Deportes, joining the broadcaster in 1997.

During his time at Televisa, he covered the Mexican Soccer National Team for more than 15 year, as well as the FIFA World Cup (1998, 2002, 2006, 2010 and 2014), the Summer Olympics (2004, 2008 and 2012), the Winter Olympics (2002 and 2006), Copa América (2004, 2007 and 2011), five Copa de Oro tournaments, the FIFA Confederations Cup, the Indy Light series, NASCAR and the Kentucky Derby, among other sporting events.

Rumors of Gurwitz’s jump to Telemundo started circulating almost a year ago. According to several reports in Mexican media, Gurwitz was “frozen” and pulled off the air in June of last year for signing a deal with Telemundo when he was still under an exclusivity contract with Televisa, forcing a delay in his move to the U.S. network until now.
