Facebook and Poynter launch joint journalism online training program

Facebook and the Poynter Institute have launched a new online three-course certificate training program for journalists.

The free Facebook for Journalists Certificate program was designed to teach journalists best practices for using Facebook and Instagram in daily reporting – from newsgathering to storytelling to effectively engaging with viewers and readers.

The course provides tools that help journalists and producers discover newsworthy content inside the Facebook and Instagram platforms, offers ideas and techniques to build and retain an engaged Facebook live online audience, and covers immersive storytelling using Facebook 360 video and photos.

People who enroll in the course and pass Poynter’s assessment will receive a certificate of completion that is recognized by both Facebook and Poynter via Blueprint, Facebook’s e-learning system.

The initiative is part of the Facebook Journalism Project  that promotes collaborative developments of news products between Facebook teams and news organizations.

The Facebook Journalism Project also collaborates with the First Draft Partner Network to help verify crowdsource news reports from around the world.
