NLRB complaint against SBS seeks rehiring of 8 fired employees who voted for union

The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) has issued a formal complaint against Spanish Broadcasting Systems (SBS) for violating fair labor practices.

The NLRB decision comes after reviewing multiple charges filed by SAG-AFTRA, claiming SBS intimidated, threatened and fired 8 radio employees from its L.A. radio stations LA RAZA (KLAX 97.9 FM) and MEGA (KXOL 96.3 FM) for allegedly seeking union representation.

As part of the remedy, the NLRB is seeking an order requiring the broadcaster reinstate the terminated employees with back pay, plus interest and any other consequential damages, such as out-of-pocket medical expenses. It also wants SBS to reimburse the union its bargaining costs and expenses associated with the media company’s “illegal bad faith bargaining.”

SBS denies the allegations, calling them “false, baseless, and inflammatory.”

A trial date for the case has been set for December 11. More details about the charges, the complete list of terminated employees and how SAG-AFTRA believes it can get them reinstated are available on my story in Forbes.
