Azteca América and LATV switch channels in LA

Two networks in Los Angeles have moved to different channels as a result of last year’s spectrum auction.

Azteca América, which aired on KAZA 54 since 2001, is now on KJLA-57.

KJLA was the home of LATV since 2001. The station aired LATV shows, as well as daytime paid programming, until January 1, 2018, when it moved to sister station KVMD-31.

Azteca América started transitioning to KJLA on the first day of the year, making the official launch and switch announcement on January 3. The move comes just months after the network was sold to HC2 Network Inc. in November of 2017.

Both KAZA and KJLA sold their spectrum in the auction. KJLA, owned by Entravision CEO Walter Ulloa since 1994, got $135,542,845 and KAZA picked up $91,116,442.

In addition to the spectrum, KAZA sold its broadcast license (including an executed Channel Sharing Agreement)  to Weigel Broadcasting for $9 million in September of 2017.

As of January 3, 2018, KAZA became a MeTV affiliate.
