Marquez named Miami mayor’s office Director of Communications

Former newspaper executive Myriam Marquez is joining the communications ranks.

Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos A. Giménez has appointed Marquez Communications Director and Senior Advisor for the Office of the Mayor.

In her new role, she will oversee a staff of 150 and the communications for the county’s 25 departments.

Marquez spent more than 12 years at the Miami Herald and El Nuevo Herald.  She worked her way up from Assistant City Editor to Editorial Page Editor at the Miami Herald, before becoming VP and Executive Editor of El Nuevo Herald, a role she stepped down from in June 2017.

She previously worked 18 years for the Orlando Sentinel and Tribune Co. in multiple roles, including Enterprise Editor, Senior Columnist, and Editorial Writer.

She starts the new job April 2, 2018.
