NPR promotes Arrieta to Deputy Director of News Operations

Rolando Arrieta

Rolando Arrieta has been officially promoted to Deputy Director of News Operations at NPR. He had been performing the duties of the role without the official title since April.

In his new position, he has expanded responsibilities overseeing the day-to-day content production and breaking news operations, staff and producer teams.

Arrieta, who joined NPR in 2005 and has held several roles during his tenure at the public broadcaster, was most recently Production and Operations Manager.

“I’m grateful NPR has given me the opportunity to grow and reach my career objectives,” he tells Media Moves. “In my new role, I look forward to increased responsibilities of managing the day-to-day digital and audio production operations while also continuing the quest for newsroom diversity and inclusion.”

Arrieta received an NPR Diversity Success Award for co-leading the first Public Radio Village recruitment program and he project-managed the launch of NPR’s first Spanish-language podcast, Radio Ambulante.

Last year he filed a story for Radio Ambulante on the recent Cuban migration crisis called “La ruta larga,” which made their top ten most listened to episodes in 2017.
