Eric Ortiz

Ortiz joins Granite Media as Senior Editor

August 27, 2018 by Veronica Villafañe

Eric Ortiz is returning to the sports news arena. He has started a new job as Senior Editor of the soon to launch Stadium Talk news site, which will cover stories in the world of sports.

Stadium Talk will launch in September. It will be Granite Media’s fourth vertical. Its first – Work + Money – launched in 2017. The other two are Far & Wide and FamilyMinded.

Ortiz will be in charge of developing Stadium Talk, growing the new site and leading an editorial team of freelance sports writers.

“I grew up playing sports and developed a love for every game. Legendary athletes, coaches and journalists like Magic Johnson, John Wooden and Jim Murray shaped my outlook on not only sports but life,” says Ortiz. “As I learned a long time ago, sports connect us and reveal character, and there are no shortcuts to creating excellence.”

His first day at Granite Media was last Monday, August 20. He was Managing Editor at Truthdig until July 31.

Ortiz is a former editor at ESPN.com, the founding editor of the New England Sports Network (NESN.com). He is the founder of the journalism startup Evrybit, which expanded access to mobile reporting and storytelling.
