Sportscaster MJ Acosta joins NFL Network

MJ Acosta

Sports anchor and reporter MJ Acosta has left NBC and Telemundo San Diego to join the NFL Network.

She’ll contribute to shows such as NFL Total Access, NFL GameDay Morning and NFL Up to the Minute.

Acosta will be based in the Bay Area to cover the San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders.

When she starts the job September 1, she’ll be the only Latina on-air talent at the NFL network.

“This opportunity symbolizes nearly a decade of hard work and sacrifice in the broadcast field,” she tells Media Moves. “I’ve worked with some amazing people both in Miami, where I started my career, and most recently in San Diego, all of whom have helped mold me into a stronger sportscaster. I’m beside myself with excitement and so humbled to be able to share my passion for sports on a national level.”

Acosta joined NBC 7 San Diego in 2016, where she covered the Chargers for three seasons as the lead sports anchor. She added sports anchoring duties for Telemundo 20, when the it launched its newscast last year.

Her last day at the NBC and Telemundo was yesterday.

She previously spent three years as a reporter for WPLG in Miami and Fort Lauderdale, covering sports, entertainment and breaking news. Before that, she was a a sports anchor at Generation Next Youth Sports Network from 2011 to 2013.

Acosta’s work also includes co-hosting NBC’s “Spartan: Ultimate Team Challenge” for two seasons.

A New York native, she grew up with a love for sports as the daughter of a Dominican professional basketball player.
