Rhor leaves Houston Chronicle for USA Today

Monica Rhor has left the Houston Chronicle to join USA Today as a national writer. She’ll continue to be based in Houston, where she has lived for the past 12 years.

She starts the new job on Tuesday, September 25.

Rhor was most recently a narrative writer covering gender, sexuality, spirituality and race issues at the Chronicle, since rejoining the paper in 2014.

An award-winning journalist, Rhor has criss-crossed the country during her career, working as a writer and reporter for the Associated Press, The Boston Globe, The Orange County Register, Miami Herald and The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Born in Ecuador and raised in New Jersey, Rhor has also has taught high school journalism and English.

She has also been longtime mentor and co-chair on student projects for he National Association of Hispanic Journalists, the National Association of Black Journalists and UNITY.
