John Treviño is no longer president and GM of Telemundo Dallas, after the company eliminated his position.
Treviño, who had overseen the NBCUniversal-owned station since 2012, is not moving to another role within the company.
His last day at Telemundo 39 was February 1.
Tom Ehlmann, president and GM of KXAS NBC 5, now also oversees Telemundo 39, consolidating management of the two stations under the leadership of just one executive.
“We are reorganizing Telemundo 39’s operations to position the station for continued future success in the rapidly changing local media landscape,” says a spokesperson about the elimination of a Telemundo stand-alone GM in Dallas. “We thank John for his commitment to the station and wish him well in his future endeavors.”
The “realignment” was effective Monday, February 4.
Over the past several years, Telemundo has lost general managers at stations that are part of shared space duopolies. Newer O&O acquisitions and stations – like Boston, Philadelphia, D.C. and San Diego – have fallen directly under the leadership of the local NBC GMs.
The Telemundo station in Dallas joins Chicago, San Jose, Philadelphia, Boston, San Diego and Washington, D.C. with consolidated NBC/Telemundo GMs.
Miami and LA – where Telemundo and NBC stations are located in the same building – currently still have separate GMs. It remains to be seen if similar “realignments” will be adopted in those stations.
