Telemundo has hired three Mexico-based journalists laid off after the closure of the New York Times en Español, beefed up its editorial team and lined up a series of partnerships to boost its digital operations plans for 2020 electoral coverage.

The former NYT journalists are Natalia Gutiérrez, who joined the Telemundo digital team as Audience Development Manager, Albinson Linares as Senior Digital Correspondent and Marina Elisa Franco as News Digital Reporter.

Digital plans for Decision 2020 also include a complete redesign of NoticiasTelemundo.com with improved social integration and navigation experience. The new website will involve a close partnership with NBC News that will deliver simultaneous content among both platforms.

Other digital initiatives include a daily YouTube English-language newscast, a show produced for digital platform Quibi, partnerships with fact-checking organizations PolitiFact and Animal Político and a partnership with the Des Moines Register.
