Fin Gómez promoted to political director for CBS News

Fin Gomez

White House producer Fin Gómez has been named political director for CBS News.

Gómez begins his new role this week and will continue to be based in Washington, D.C.

Neeraj Khemlani, president and co-head of CBS News and Stations, announced his promotion today.

Gómez joined CBS News as a White House producer in 2018, covering the Trump and Biden administrations, including traveling domestically and internationally with the president and coordinating breaking news from the White House for all CBS News platforms.

He will now oversee the network’s political campaign coverage on a daily basis.

Gómez previously spent 12 years at Fox News, first as an embed reporter covering seven different candidates during the 2008 presidential campaign cycle, then as a producer at the network’s Washington bureau, covering the Obama administration. He also covered Mitt Romney’s 2012 presidential campaign and the 2016 presidential run of Hillary Clinton.

During his time at Fox, he was also a field producer in Miami focused on politics, Latino news and Latin American coverage, including the cartel wars in Mexico, the political and economic crisis in Venezuela, and violent crime in Brazilian favelas.

He began his journalism career at ABC News’ Washington bureau.

Gómez is the first Latino journalist to serve on the White House Correspondents Association’s board in its 108-year history.
