Camila Fernández leaves WISH 8

Camila Fernandez

Bilingual reporter Camila Fernández has left WISH 8 after a 3-year run at the Indianapolis station.

Colombia-born and Miami-raised, Fernández says she made the decision to leave after giving it a lot of thought.

“It has been an incredible journey, and I am thankful for every single individual I’ve met in Indiana. I am especially thankful for the friends I made along the way,” she tells Media Moves. “However, I’ve recently decided that I need to be closer to my family in Florida, where I will continue to work in media.”

Despite her departure, she says “there is still a tremendous need for more bilingual reporters” to serve Indiana’s growing Hispanic community and would “like to encourage businesses to invest in organizations that want to bring more local journalism to Spanish-speakers in Indiana. This is something that is essential for all communities.”

Fernández, who had renewed her contract last year, had been at WISH 8 since January 2021.

Before that, she worked as a reporter at WMDT-TV in Salisbury, Maryland, and anchored a Spanish-language newscast for Azteca America affiliate WGDV-LD.
