Amy Alvarez named news director at Telemundo Utah

Amy Alvarez is moving up the ranks in news management. The Telemundo Station Group has promoted her to news director as is relocating her to KULX in Utah.

She starts the job at Telemundo Utah May 6.

In her new role, she’ll lead all aspects of news, production, and operations across Telemundo Utah’s television, digital media and streaming platforms.

Alvarez replaces Pedro Andrade who had been named to the top news job at the station in August 2023. He left the company in January.

She arrives from KVDA Telemundo 60 San Antonio, where she has been executive producer since 2019.

Alvarez will report to Tatiana Argüello, president and GM of Telemundo Utah and Telemundo Colorado.

Prior to Telemundo 60 San Antonio, Alvarez spent two years as executive news producer for Tegna in Houston. She also worked for Telemundo Houston as a a news producer from 2013 to 2016.

Alvarez previously worked 10 years as a news producer at Telemundo Dallas and the now defunct Dallas-based Telemundo Production Center, which produced regionalized newscasts.

She started her journalism career in her native Venezuela, where she worked as an associate producer for Televen network in Caracas.
