October 1, 2024 by Veronica Villafañe

Hatzel Vela has moved to NBC6 and begun a new role as politics reporter for the Miami station.

He will also contribute Spanish-language reports on sister station Telemundo 51.

Before joining NBC6, Vela spent 10 years as a reporter at Miami’s WPLG-TV.

During his time at the ABC affiliate, he became the first local television journalist in the U.S. to live, work and cover daily life and political complexities in Cuba.

He previously worked at WJLA-TV, the ABC affiliate in Washington, D.C.
