María Martínez-Guzmán, Univision network’s Executive Vice President of News, has resigned, according to inside sources.
She exited the company today.
Her resignation amid reports of impending massive layoffs comes just days after longtime correspondents Luis Megid and Blanca Rosa Vilchez took retirement buyouts and Univision shut down its San Francisco news bureau.
A company spokesperson would not address Martínez-Guzmán’s resignation, saying they do not comment on personnel matters.
Martínez-Guzmán worked for Univision’s network news for more than two decades in various roles, including key management positions.
She stepped into the role of interim head of Univision News just last year, following the departure of President Leopoldo Gómez. However, after only a month in charge, she was passed over for the permanent position when Daniel Coronell was reinstated to lead the network news department.
Martínez-Guzmán, who joined Univision Network in 2002, was part of the team that launched “Al Punto,” which sources have confirmed will be cancelled at the end of the year, when Jorge Ramos leaves the company.
Before making her move to Univision network’s Miami headquarters, Martínez-Guzmán was news director at Univision affiliate KNVO-48 in McAllen, TX.
