Maria de los Angeles Franco - Noticiero Telemundo Arizona

María de los Angeles Franco named weekend news anchor at KTAZ

May 21, 2025 by Veronica Villafañe Leave a Comment

María de los Angeles Franco has been named weekend anchor for Noticiero Telemundo Arizona’s 5 and 10 p.m. newscasts.

She will also continue to work as a multimedia journalist for the Phoenix station’s consumer investigative unit, Telemundo Arizona Responde.

Franco stepped in as weekend anchor in December 2023 when Melissa Aguilar – in the role since 2021 – went on maternity leave. Aguilar resigned in mid-July 2024 to focus on raising her child. The station officially named Franco as her permanent replacement this week.

Franco joined KTAZ Telemundo 39 and KHRR Telemundo 40 in 2023. Since November 2024, she has been producing consumer investigative segments that air during the station’s weekday newscasts.

Franco, a lawyer in her native Venezuela, previously worked as a news anchor at Globovisión from 2019 to 2020. Before that, she spent two years an international news anchor for Canal 1 in Caracas.

* The story was updated to include Franco had been anchoring weekends on an interim basis following Aguilar’s maternity leave and resignation.
