It’s official: MediaCo is now the owner of Estrella Media – a process that began in April 2024, with the purchase of the network’s content, digital, and commercial operations.
The company moved forward with the deal’s option to acquire Estrella Media’s radio and TV stations, which was finalized May 1st and revealed today.
“Acquiring Estrella Media’s broadcast assets and licenses opens new doors for innovation, expansion, and deeper engagement with diverse audiences nationwide,” Debra DeFelice, MediaCo’s CFO, told Media Moves. “We’re excited about the opportunity to build on this momentum and deliver long-term value to our shareholders, partners, and communities. The finalization of the purchase marks a pivotal step in MediaCo’s growth strategy.”
Today, MediaCo also unveiled a shift in its business strategy, positioning itself as a “multicultural multiplatform.” This new direction will heavily focus on digital media and streaming, as presented during the company’s 2025 programming plans at the IAB NewFronts in NYC.
More details about these plans, along insights from Rene Santaella, a former Sony and Disney ad sales and media executive hired to overhaul Estrella Media’s digital division in 2020, are available on Forbes.
